Hobbiton 2024

It’s been a decade since I last visited Hobbiton and the popularity has increased tenfold!   Still, a New Zealand visit isn’t complete without spending some time exploring hobbit holes.  My family gathered at the check-in area, where there was plenty of merchandise to buy!  It was so tempting, but would it fit in my suitcase?   We soon boarded a bus that took us to the famous village.  Wow, how thrilling!

Daily Life

Hobbiton seems like a real place.  Although I didn’t see any residents, I did photograph some hobbit laundry!

Today must be laundry day in Hobbiton.

Pumpkin Quiz

Our guide, somewhere at the head of the line, challenged us to distinguish a real pumpkin from the many scattered around the hillsides.  Hobbiton effects are terrific, but someone at the head of the line shouted his guess.

The real pumpkin?

Welcome!

To my delight, we were able to enter a hobbit hole.  That’s a change from 2014.

And now for a cozy bath.

The Party Tree

Of course, we stopped to see the Party Tree.  It sits on a hill and looks over a beautiful meadow.  Feel free to sit on a swing or play at the maypole.

The Green Dragon

The tour ended at the Green Dragon.  Of course, we stopped to have a drink.  Doesn’t everyone?

I hope you get a chance to visit Hobbiton.  It’s a must-see on your New Zealand itinerary.  To view more photos from my visit, please click here.
