While many people travel at Thanksgiving, I am staying put. Rather than write about faraway places, I’m going to celebrate the holiday with home cooking, family, and friends. I love this time of year when the weather finally cools a bit, and comfort food seems more tempting. Thanksgiving means unique dishes and recipes that I don’t bother with at any other time of year.
Color!
Gone are the pastels or bright hues of summer. Now is the time for the golden tones of autumn!
Hearty foods are expected this time of year. From appetizers to desserts, we find ways to add a few more calories to the menu. After all, we have to keep warm during the coming winter months!
The Thanksgiving table
Of course, summer’s paper plates have disappeared from view. Now is the time for tables decorated with an autumn touch.
I like the golden sparkle of the crystal.
Holiday lessons
I’m sure many readers are enjoying a fabulous Thanksgiving dinner this year. Everyone makes a big effort, and the food is terrific. I often photograph the table and the turkey and forget the most important element, the family. This year I intend to correct this oversight!
Another lesson I’m practicing this year is to conserve my energy. I’m convalescing from an injury. The lack of mobility has taught me patience, humility, and gratitude. Perfect characteristics to remember this time of year!
I wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your feast!
Coming soon…
Oh, I almost forgot the big event of the weekend. It’s officially time to start your holiday shopping! I’ll wander out in a wheelchair on the day after Thanksgiving. I doubt I’ll get far. Nonetheless, I’ll see the decorations and say hello to Santa.

Happy Thanksgiving, Liz. We’re staying put too. Just going over to Betsy’s sister’s house so there will be a bit of the family and a couple of friends. Hope you have a good one.
Thanks, Jim. I had a lovely Thanksgiving. Hope you did as well.
