I always debate with myself whether braving the September southern California heat is worth the effort, but in the end, I visit the Los Angeles County Fair at least once. This year was no exception. I’m happy to say I won the battle (it wasn’t a scorching day), and I had a great afternoon.
Pop at the Fair
I’ll admit that my main interest in the fair is to find photographs. I prowl the gardens and midway looking for color, people, and best use of the annual theme, “The Fair Goes Pop.” What could be more “pop” than a parade of vintage cars and high school bands?
The Flower and Garden Pavilion also is giving the nod to pop culture with a facade resembling Grauman’s Chinese Theater.
The floral displays also have a pop element.
The theme popped up everywhere. (Sorry, for the pun; I couldn’t resist.)
People
I enjoy watching the people while I stroll. I’m shy about photographing them. At times, I get a picture of one of the midway rides. People aren’t paying much attention to me when they’re having fun.
A fair means Color!
What I really look for at the fair is color and light. The theme and visitor reactions are fine, but I like bright colors.
I found lots of color along the midway, but sometimes I like things a little calmer. Reflections in the lagoon offer a nice contrast to the bright lights of fair attractions.
The sunny afternoon makes a nice contrast with the cool blue of the water.
I’ll close with one last image. The carousel is my favorite ride. There are several of these at the fair. I like the one with two tiers.
Yes, I know that the horses are wearing feather dusters. Shhh, don’t call attention to it.
The Los Angeles County Fair is located in Pomona, CA. It will run through September 22, 2019. Better hurry!
